My Barbie Collection

Daily writing prompt
Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

I would have to say my collection of dolls and all of their clothes now that I see what they would possibly be worth, but mom had a friend a couple of miles up the road with many children and there had been an awful house fire.

Mom asked if I would think about giving them to her friend’s little girls and without another thought I knew they had to be given to those girls who were without toys. I remember going over there with all of my dolls and them being happy, it was all that mattered but I did keep my Kissing Krissy Doll and Chatty Cathy along with so many dolls from other countries.

Who knew it would be our own Barbie that would end up being a rock star for collectors.

I forgot I also gave them Skipper and suitcases of shoes and clothes.

I still try to do the right thing; it is how I was raised.

  1. Amazing that you saved them all, except for one of Skippers shoes! I did have most of these dolls, and Chatty Cathy. I also had a large collection of dolls from other countries from my grandparents travel. I wish I had kept them like you did. Not because they might be worth alot, but because I loved them. Be Well Eunice.
