Daily writing prompt
What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
I no longer tear up the soil.
After 40 years I am a NO TILL girl.
I add a layer of cardboard on top of the grass/soil then add a nice mixture of soil and compost mix and plant into that the cardboard will breakdown.
When you till you do more harm to the soil and the microbes that call it home. The cardboard kills the weeds/grass and when your plants come up mulch them.
I also only clean the garden in Spring no more fall work to put the gardens to bed I leave it for the wild ones who I share my yard with.
Have a wonderful Weekend!

I love what you are doing. My cousin’s husband calls it Lasagna Gardening. I have not quite gotten there yet!
Yes, layers of amazing soil you make better each year with more and more homemade compost which is truly the best. Also, I grow say tomatoes, zucchini, garlic, onion, basil and just buy cheese to make lasagna :) Have a wonderful Sunday!
Sounds like a good garden plan!
Thanks, it works for this old lady :)

Do you dig holes through the cardboard for your tomato plants?
When I set up a new area, I lay down all the cardboard I have saved to recycle, then wet it down well, then I add compost/soil mix on top usually 10″ deep. It is nice rich loose soil mix that I plant into. I do the same for my raised beds cardboard/newspaper in the bottom to kill weeds, wet the layer, then rich mix on top then add plants and or seeds.
Here is a link with more ideas to play with.

Interesting! I may have to give it a try!
The leaves are gorgeous!
Thank you it is truly a magical spot to live in for sure and October is amazing with leaves competing with pumpkins and scarecrows no less I say the leaves take the win every year.
I agree!
Good scheme.
I hadn’t heard of this method of gardening before. Sounds like a good idea!
So easy Liz.
I like the sound of easy!
I went to a talk by a local resident who also has a landscape company and she told us to ditch the rototiller I sold mine the next day :)
I’ll have to break the news to my husband. ;)
Another garden club member told her husband he still remains old school lol
Heh, heh :D
I know a couple of other people using his ‘lasagne’ method and love it!
So easy and no machinery needed.
Nice 😊
Good morning Eunice, well ! I did not know about this method of planting, thanks it sounds good. I am struggling to grow tomato plants on my balcony but the summer has been so hot they have not survived. Any tips ?
A sailcloth or umbrella during the hottest parts of the day, and maybe a wine bottle full of water flipped over and stuck in the soil with a little fertilizer mixed in for extra moisture?
Holaaa
Ingenious idea!
Not mine but it works :)
