To have the police keep the streets safer and cleaner would be one thing I
would do.
There are speed limits, and no littering laws, now enforce them.
Since Covid it has been total lawlessness out on the streets, with everyone doing 25 mph over the posted speed limit and 90% of them on their phones!
We need some Einstein type to invent a part that would go into every cell phone making them unusable when the car is running. Like a force field blocking all the electronics in a phone lol yes, it is that crazy out there on our roadways of New England!
Worst invention ever was the cell phone :( yes, it’s convenient but it is too much of a distraction with everyone looking down at their crotches and not where they are going. lol

A passenger should be able to use a phone, but yes people are too addicted to their phones. Having children addicted to them from an early age is not helping. Teachers tell me kids have shorter attention spans today and they blame it on cell phones.
Nowadays, it is not just petty criminals that scares me, it is the mentally ill ones, who are allowed to roam the streets.
Any distractions during driving has potential risks. Even talking to the person next to you in the car can also have similar risks. What smart phones offer more is having screen for you to view or even having live conversation (face to face) with the other person that to me is a few steps up in the danger zone. I think a way to stop screen time while driving might help. I know iPhone has the feature to not allowing user to do so while driving but it discretionary choice to by pass that (so that passenger is allowed to continue). I hope clever engineers can come up with a way to get around all useful use cases and yet still create safer driving.

I would guess that it would not be too difficult to automatically disable a phone when it was travelling over a certain speed, but phone companies are not selling road safety, they are selling phones.
True enough but it is a very dangerous thing to use at 50 mph never mind 100+mph over here :(
