Daily Prompt: Say Your Name

My name is not one I would have chosen.  It is my Mother’s first name as well as her Mom’s.  Funny thing is when Dad met Mom she told him her name was Sandy!  So they are about to say their vows when the minister asks him if he will take Eunice, he blurts out who is THAT!  Guess he loved her and her name so much he bestowed it on me,  with his mom’s name for my middle one.  Neither fit who I think I really am but with that much love felt for names and the people who carried them before me,  I grew into them.

  1. I like this. My brother goes by his middle name, due to him and dad having the same first name, even though dad goes by his nickname of sorts. My hubby didn’t realise this until we got their wedding invite and he nearly fell over at the names on it.

    1. So many secrets 🙂 My dad thought the minister was mistaken so I blame him for my name lol my brother and Dad have the same name it must be how it was once done before they started naming their children APPLE and BLUE lol

  2. When we got married in a registry office, the registrar misquoted my husband-to-be’s middle name and he said: “Does that let me off the hook, then?” But he says your story is better than ours.

I’ve struggled all my life with a difficult name – Damaris. I wanted to use my middle name Lea but it has an acute accent as it came from my French grandmother and I just couldn’t cope with that so I stuck with Damaris!

  3. PLOL (Pig Laughing out Loud). Well mom/dad named me Bacon. I don’t think I’m a ‘Bacon’. I think I’m more of a ‘Ham’. XOXO – Bacon

    1. Very hey 🙂 some friends call me Uni others called me Blondie but NO MORE now it is SANDY lol

  4. Funny!! I don’t love my name either but I don’t know why it’s not like Diane is hard to say but then everyone wants to put two n’s in it or call me Diana.

    1. 🙂 Funny for sure yes but you should see how they attempt to spell MINE lol

  5. Thanks for sharing, Eunice. By the way, my husband has an Aunt Eunice and she is a dear.I was named after both of my grandmothers (sort of… Bette for Elizabeth and Anne for Anna). We had so many Betty’s in our family that we were all called by our first + middle names. I was Bette Anne… That was when I was a child. Every now and then a cousin will call me “Bette Anne” and it brings back lots of family memories. Your post brought them back, too. HAVE A HAPPY! 🙂

    1. Thanks for Sharing my Mom and Grandmother’s were both Eunice and they always called me Little Eunice how cleaver 🙂
